Introduction to Ayurveda
Saturday 10:00a - 3:00p
Ayurveda, often translated as "the Science of Life," is one of the world's oldest systems of holistic wellness. Rooted in the same philosophical traditions as yoga, Ayurveda offers a practical framework for understanding ourselves as part of nature rather than separate from it.
In this workshop, we'll explore the foundational principles of Ayurveda through the lens of the five elements, the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha), seasonal rhythms, and daily practices that support balance in body, mind, and spirit. Together, we'll investigate how our unique constitutions influence the way we move, eat, rest, relate, and respond to life's challenges.
Whether you're completely new to Ayurveda or looking to deepen your understanding of yoga beyond the mat, this workshop offers an accessible introduction to a living tradition that invites us to align with the wisdom of nature, the seasons, and ourselves.
In this workshop, we will explore:
The origins and purpose of Ayurveda
The five elements and how they manifest in nature and within us
The three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha
Constitution (prakriti) and imbalance (vikriti)
Seasonal living and daily rhythms (dinacharya)

Itinerary-
Arriving, we’ll do an herbal tea service, light snacks, and a welcome circle with introductions. Here, we’ll set intentions for the day, creating a slower, more Ayurvedic pace from the start.
-
We’ll discuss the history and philosophy of Ayurveda and the relationship between Ayurveda and Yoga, also the five elements, and balance vs. imbalance in the doshas.
Interactive discussion rather than lecture.
-
A gentle all-levels practice where we can explore Vata, Pitta, and Kapha through movement. Breath-work and short meditation. This will be our experiential anchor of the day.
-
We’ll have a seasonal meal, with options for all constitutions, and a discussion of Ayurvedic food principles. Mindful eating practice.
This meal will be vegetarian.
-
To close the day, you’ll create a final piece to share with the group. We’ll reflect on your process and celebrate the creativity that unfolded.
